Gracie, born and raised in Kohala, Moku O Keawe, is a visual and musical artist emerging from a world of engineering and theoretical conjecture. She draws inspiration from the mechanics of nature and day to day life; the way the water in the ocean mimics the swift motion of gasses in stars, the displacement of pine needles amidst a breeze. There is even, she finds, beauty in the way a lengthy skirt folds over itself as it finally touches the floor, or emanating from a scene as simple as a glass bottle on a windowsill.

It has always been in her nature to point out the overlooked or easily missed. This tendency likely originates from long walks in the park with her dad when she was small. She’d urge him to watch the birds dance with each other before they flew away, leaving only empty space, as if they had never landed in that spot to begin with. She’d tug on the seam of her dads jeans to get his attention, before the twirling leaf hit the ground and became indistinguishable amongst its fallen friends. To capture these moments before the stage is cleared, with a tool as convenient as the eye, has been regarded as one of life's greatest gifts by this artist.
In her original minimalistic, patchwork pieces, Gracie strives, if not to recreate the scene exactly, to capture the ways the sight moved her. She mimics the curves drawn in memory, to allow the movement of the moment a place to rest. On special occasions, the piece lands on skin, composed of ink and patience. When she gave herself her first tattoo at 14, a dream came to life within her, and that moment combined with the thousand others that had occurred only briefly, showed her that permanence is a fantasy. However, tattoos offer something close- a lifetime of familiarity.
